Delicious and Best Selling Chewy Cream Puffs @ Chewy Junior

They were merely an accidental creation, but the cream puffs from Chewy Junior have taken Singapore by storm and today, they sell thousands of cream puffs daily in each of their outlets.

Ironically, founder Kevin Ong didn’t mean to create his bestselling cream puffs in Singapore – he was simply experimenting with various different recipes at the time when he stumbled upon them.

Recently, I picked up a box of these delicious cream puffs from Chewy Junior’s Ion Orchard outlet, Singapore.

The Types Available

There are many types of cream puffs available at the shop. These include sweet flavours such as chocolate fudge, butterscotch and tiramisu. Savoury versions like black pepper chicken and chilli crab are available too. As well, the shop has mini versions of their cream puffs in the more popular flavours, such as chocolate and vanilla.

As I have a sweet tooth, I opted for some of the sweet flavours. The ones I eventually selected were the chocolate zebra, double chocolate crunch, chocolate almond crunch, peanut butter crunch, raspberry lemon and strawberry cheese.

Chocolate Zebra

This cream puff consists of a layer of chocolate and zebra stripes for decoration. I thought it looked simple, yet interesting.

The taste was really yummy too. The dark chocolate combined very well together with the mouth-watering cream and the chewy texture of the cream puff.

One thing I liked was that fresh cream was used. Perhaps this is why the maximum recommended shelf life of these cream puffs is only two days inside the refrigerator.

Double Chocolate Crunch

This flavour was rather delicious too. I especially liked the chocolate chips on top of the cream puff. These added a delightful crunch to the puff. The layer of chocolate on the surface also went very well together with the cream, creating a completely irresistible combination of flavours. I would definitely get this flavour again.

Chocolate Almond Crunch

This cream puff was delicious and was one of the better ones. The almonds were crispy and they provided a good crunch to the moist cream puff. They also balanced very well together with the thin layer of chocolate and I enjoyed eating it very much.

Peanut Butter Crunch

I thought this flavour was delicious. There were crushed pieces of peanut on the surface of this cream puff, creating a delicious nutty sensation inside my mouth. As I always enjoy eating peanuts, this flavour suited my palate perfectly. As well, the peanut flavour went very well together with the cream and the puff.

Raspberry Lemon

I was attracted to the design of this cream puff – the lemon flavouring formed a pretty star-shaped pattern in the centre of a circular shaped raspberry flavoured topping.

But I must admit I was a little disappointed with this flavour. While the cream tasted fresh and yummy, the fruity flavour did not sit very well with me. The lemon seemed quite sour and it did not really go very well together with the raspberry flavouring.

 Strawberry Cheese

Strawberry Cream Cheese.

This fruity flavour tasted slightly better than the raspberry lemon one, but the strawberry was also a bit sour. The cheese helped to neutralise this and the cream tasted good, though.

Overall Comments

While the cream puff here are indeed yummy and delicious, I would probably stay clear of the fruity flavours in the future, even though I usually love fruits. But I would definitely buy the other ones again.

As well, some of the other flavours that caught my eye are the chocolate caramel and cream cheese caramel ones, which were unfortunately sold out on the day of my visit.

I may also consider trying their savoury flavours, such as the chicken floss or the ham and potato puffs, as these may provide a totally different and more Singaporean taste.
