McDonald’s Treats during the Fifa World Cup Brazil 2014

As the Fifa World Cup is currently taking place in Brazil this month, why not watch the games… while tucking into some mouth-watering Brazilian-inspired treats, right here in Singapore.

Now you can do just that, with McDonald’s new Brazilian-inspired treats.

Spicy Beef Burger or Sweet Chilli Chicken Burger

McDonald’s lip-smacking World Cup treats include a grilled beef burger (Spicy Beef Picante) and a deep-fried chicken burger (Sweet Chilli Lime Crispy Chicken Caramba). These are each priced at SGD7.60 with an Extra-Value Meal.

I ordered the chicken burger and it was definitely delicious. The hot, deep-fried chicken patty was divine and it went really well together with the sweet chilli lime sauce. Complete with the crunchy lettuce, juicy tomatoes and the soft sesame bun, I thought it is a really yummy combination. And the chilli flavour provided a nice kick.

Other World Cup Themed Food Delights

Besides the burgers, there are also spicy-hot chicken drumlets (Samba Spicy Drumlets) and a carbonated lime-flavoured drink (Fiesta Lime McFizz). For those with a sweet tooth, a banana pie (Copa-Banana Pie) and a soft-serve vanilla ice cream on a green biscuit cone (Brasilia Green Cone) are also available.

The Samba Spicy Drumlets came out piping hot and were yummy. If you like spicy food, these drumlets are definitely for you. And sipping on the Lime McFizz helps to neutralise the spicy after-taste.

The banana pie was crunchy outside and this went well with the hot and moist banana filling. And if this had been paired together with some ice cream, then I would have probably been in seventh heaven!

I thought that the Fiesta Lime McFizz was great to drink – especially in Singapore’s hot, tropical weather. It was so refreshing and the beverage went well with the chicken burger.

McDonald’s Samba Celebrations

Besides the food items, McDonald’s is also bringing the World Cup spirit and atmosphere to Singaporeans, through weekend Samba-themed carnivals.

Plenty of fun things await you at the carnivals – ranging from a myriad of fun games and attractive prizes, to exotic Samba dancers and drumbeaters.

And if you have always dreamed of being the next Lionel Messi or Arjen Robben, you can showcase your ball spinning, dribbling, juggling and penalty-taking skills at the carnivals too. And if you’re good enough, the football scouts might just come knocking at your door…

I tried out some of these games myself at one of these carnivals, held last Saturday at McDonald’s Kallang – and while I certainly cannot score volleys like Tim Cahill or “fly” like Robin Van Persie, I still had a fun time. And as a bonus, I managed to walk away with a prize, too.

This coming weekend, 28 June, the McDonald’s Samba Carnival will be at West Coast Park. For more information about the carnival, click here.

Augmented Reality Mobile Game

If you prefer to test out your football skills through an online game, you can check out the brand new McDonald’s GOL! Mobile app. This is available in both the Apple App and Google Play stores.

"What will my carnival prize be?"

“What will my carnival prize be?”

To unlock this app, just buy a Medium or Large fries, which comes with a choice of 12 brand new street art designs by artists from all over the world. These designs are meant to reflect the spirit of the Fifa World Cup.

Scan the artwork on the box. When your mobile device recognises it, a football and pitch will appear on the screen. You then flick a finger to “kick” the ball into the virtual goal (your fry box) on the screen while at the same time, trying to avoid and divert obstacles along the way.

You can move on to tougher levels and the more you play, the more points you will get for your pre-selected country’s leader-board. At the end of each day, the winning country will be displayed on the Leader Table within the app.

As you keep playing, you can accumulate awards and achievements and perfect your own special trick shots – just like leading World Cup scorers, Karim Benzema and Thomas Mueller.

I tried out this game myself and it is definitely quite addictive. I found myself wanting to keep playing and challenging myself with the harder and harder levels each time. This is definitely a great and novel World Cup idea from McDonald’s.

Thanks McDonald’s, for the invite to taste your Fifa World Cup 2014 treats and play the carnival games.
