Eating the New Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger at McDonald’s® Singapore

This National Day, McDonald’s® Singapore is whetting Singaporeans’ appetites for all things local, with the new Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger, which is the fast food chain’s nod to the good old days with the good old taste of Rendang, a perennial favourite with generations of Singaporeans.

The Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger features a 100 per cent Angus Beef Patty dipped in a rich mouth-watering rendang sauce made with a blend of coconut milk, ginger, kaffir lime, lemongrass, onion, garlic and spices.

Laid atop a layer of whole lettuce leaf, the fragrant Angus beef patty is then topped with a tender fried egg and a bed of fresh sliced red onions and grilled caramelised onions, served between two halves of a sesame seed bun.

Braved the queues at McDonald’s®

So today, I decided to brave the long queues at my nearest McDonald’s® Singapore outlet, and bought the new Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger for lunch.

However I was a little disappointed with the burger.

Eating the Burger

While I could indeed taste the Rendang flavour and this was authentic enough for me, it had seemed as though the Rendang sauce had merely been poured onto the beef patty only before serving the burger.

Also, I had thought that the Rendang flavour had been quite muted down, and not as strong as I would have liked it to be.

This had been despite the fact that a generous amount of Rendang sauce had been used in my burger. I would have preferred the thicker “Rendang” style sauce rather than McDonald’s® “gravy” version.

Fortunately it did not leak out of the packaging though because there was a second layer, a cardboard box, that had been thick enough to hold all the sauce in place.

I felt that the taste and flavour of the new Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger had more or less reminded me of another item on the McDonald’s® Singapore menu – the BBQ Beef Burger with Egg, except with a change of sauce though.

As well, the beef patty had been a little dry, too.

The Rendang Sedap Angus Beef Burger with Egg will set you back from S$6.95 for an a-la-carte order and this is available after breakfast hours in all restaurants and via McDelivery® and GrabFood, while stocks last, for a limited period only.
