New Race Route for the StanChart Marathon Singapore 2014

This year, you can expect a smoother and more enjoyable experience at the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) – regardless of the category that you are taking part in.

That’s because there will be a new and improved route for Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10Km Race this year.

Significant changes made for 2014

Significant amendments have been made to the three routes – and the main change will separate the Half Marathon participants from the Full Marathon and 10KM runners – with all the three categories only merging just 500m from the finishing line.

Runners are looking forward to the less congested routes

And based on the online chatter and response generated about these changes, runners are definitely looking forward to running along the new and potentially less congested race routes come 7 December.

Said mover, who posted on the SG Runners forum yesterday evening, “I think it’s a good move. Last year, the 21km and 42km runners merged at East Coast Park, and then merged with the 10km runners for the last 3km. So the organizers have listened to us.”

Agreed fellow SG Runners user, immanence, “It is amazing news, more for the Full Marathon and Half Marathon participants, because they get to avoid each other. For the slower Half Marathoners, they also avoid the 10Km participants (helped partly by the difference in their starting times too). I remember back in 2012, when I ran the Full Marathon, the merging of the two other categories was unpleasant.”

Route changes do not affect him personally

However, other runners, while they still feel it is a good idea, think that they will not be affected personally by the route changes. Said hitman, another SG Runners member, “I run a sub-5 marathon, so actually the route change doesn’t affect me that much.” This year at SCMS, he will be taking part in the Full Marathon again.

Less congestion may mean a new personal best

And for other runners, they are hoping that less congestion will mean a personal best. Said SG Runners member activerun, “Hopefully this delayed merging point will help me to achieve my dream goal of completing a marathon in 4 hours and below. My 2012 SCMS was very close.”
