The Totally Random Cards by Tee-Saurus are, as the name suggests, completely random. At first glance they may look like an ordinary deck of playing cards, but when you take out the individual cards and go through the various designs, you would quickly realise that they are more interesting and have creative designs.
54 “random” visuals to cater to your moods
That is because the deck of cards comprise 54 different “random” visuals to cater to your mood. There are cards to match the various emojis as well as day to day activities such as shopping and eating.
Common household objects such as a lightbulb or batteries are also featured in the cards. And due to this, these cards are great to leave on your work desk to brighten up your day and bring a smile to you and your colleagues.
Handy and portable to carry around
How did Tee-Saurus originally come up with the idea? Said Lawrens Tan, 37, founder and “Giggle-maker” at Tee-Saurus, “I was travelling for work in Penang and was thinking how I could create something that was handy and portable to carry around and can add that dose of fun to selfies and photo taking opportunities. Since we can’t take images with subtitles, we can use something very visual; and the very idea of having visual cards came to mind.”
He added “I initially thought of making it in a sketchbook form but thought it was not strong enough. The idea had to be interactive. It had to reflect on what Tee-Saurus’ vision was, which is, happier products, happier days. And the idea hit me – Poker cards. This is a simple, practical and fun idea; it can be played as a pair in a group and there is so much creative opportunities to explore!”
Great to inject fun into photos
Tan says that with the Totally Random Cards, they are also great to inject some fun into travel photos, or any photo in fact for that matter. He explained, “Now it would be different if I am on a trip. I can take out the LIKE sign and pose with my favourite cuisines and inject that fun into my photos.”
There are four different sets of visuals to play around with in the Totally Random Cards. Says Tan, “We played with emotions, random visuals, festive days, anniversaries, pop art visuals, signs and so many more. It needs to be super generic, and host a variety of moods, messages and more. So the entire deck was designed to be a one-hit visual form. Nothing too fancy, or overdone.”
Hopes to brighten up card games for people
In terms of playing with the cards, Tan hopes that they can brighten up card games for people. He explained, “They can bring a new depth to the game. Everyone can take a card randomly and have a story to tell what they have, the imagination can lead to many happy and cheeky conversations, stories and wonders. This is not only a game; it is a bonding tool between families, great friends and relatives.”
Cards are creative and indeed interesting
Taking a look through the deck of cards, I would say they are definitely creative and interesting. The card that brought a smile to my face the most, was the “low battery” one. This resonated with me because how many times have we all experienced our electronic devices running out of battery?
At the same time though I had thought the emoji cards were cute; the vivid cartoonish emojis printed out on the cards were slightly comical but the same time they had reflected the various emoticons well.
The ‘yummy’ design on the 10 of hearts card, I am sure, will bring a smile to the faces of many Singaporeans, as we all love our food. This would be a great way to showcase that your food is “yummy” and delicious.
The angel and the devil designs on the two Joker cards were also an interesting addition to the deck of cards, in my opinion.
Added my dad, who also took a look through the card deck, “The cards will also provide a great conversation piece, but may distract people when playing regular card games. They may however be good to play some memory-type games.”
What cards does Tan himself like the most? He said, “For me the pop art sections appeal to me. Their expressions are classic and I love the vivid colours. I especially love the ‘face palm’ card which I love to use always.”
Appeal to people of all ages
The cards appeal to people of all ages, according to Tan. He said, “This deck is suitable for any age group from teens to working adults because of the visual nature. Creativity can be fostered through imagination and conversing.”
Added Tan “Camps and retreats would not be so boring with these cards. But we still advise setting boundaries – while they are talking cards, we do not promote any form of gambling.”
The cards are available for purchase at Tee-Saurus.com for $14.90 each.
