The highly anticipated premiere of hit zombie apocalypse TV show, The Walking Dead, has completely smashed ratings and viewership records worldwide.
A 45% increase in viewership worldwide over Season 4
According to FOX, the global Season 5 launch of The Walking Dead has achieved a 45% increase over Season 4.
This data comes from 20 countries in three regions – Asia, Latin America and Europe. And in Europe alone, the Season 5 premiere has generated a total of 68% increase in viewers compared to Season 4.
In Singapore, the premiere of The Walking Dead Season 5 on FOX has outperformed the Season 4 launch by a massive 32%.
A Same Day Telecast as the USA
For the second year running, FOX simultaneously launched The Walking Dead in all 125 FOX channel markets across the world – reinforcing the company’s ‘First on FOX’ strategy and consolidating the broadcaster as the vehicle for The Walking Dead franchise across the world.
Across the world, The Walking Dead was screened in a same-day telecast as the USA. As a result, there were dramatic ratings increases in markets such as the UK, Italy, Spain and Taiwan.

Success of The Walking Dead was also reflected in social media
The success of The Walking Dead was also reflected in social media. Fans of the hit TV series made it a favourite trending topic in most of the markets during the premier’s broadcasting.
For example, on the day of the UK premiere, The Walking Dead generated the second highest number of Tweets of any UK TV show, with a unique audience on Twitter of 812,707 viewing-related tweets.
Closer to home, in the Philippines, the hashtags #TWDonFOX and #TheWalkingDead trended at the top spots during the premiere broadcast.
