BAT 2015: Arsenal’s Calum Chambers Wins Chapteh Challenge

Some of the Arsenal, Everton and Stoke City players – who will be taking part in next month’s Barclays Asia Trophy (BAT) in Singapore – recently tried their hands at playing Chapteh, a traditional game from Asia.

Seventh edition of the Barclays Asia Trophy

Arsenal, Everton and Stoke City will join a Singapore Select XI in BAT 2015 and ahead of the seventh edition of the Premier League’s pre-season tournament, stars from all the clubs taking part in the event gave the sport a go in a fun Chapteh challenge.

To keep the Chapteh in the air for as long as possible

Chapteh, a game which is similar to a shuttlecock, is typically played using a rubber disc with four feathers coming out of the top. The aim of Chapteh is to keep it in the air with their feet or other parts of the body, with the exception of their hands.

Some found the game more challenging than others

A challenging activity well-loved by past generations of Singaporeans, the players were put to the test which found Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud and Everton full-back Leighton Baines finding the game tougher than some of the rest.

Everton defender Seamus Coleman, Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic and players from the Singapore Select XI – not surprisingly – took to the sport immediately. But it was Arsenal defender Calum Chambers who held the bragging rights – he kept the Chapteh in the air for the longest period of time, with 32 kicks.

Here is a video of the players playfully slugging it out at the Chapteh Challenge. (See Video).
