Legends George Gregan and Waisale Serevi Join Community Rugby Clinics

Together with Fijian sevens rugby legend Waisale Serevi, Australia’s highest ever internationally capped rugby player, George Gregan, recently joined a local youth community activation clinic, which hosted 80 children between the ages of eight to 17 years old.

Clinic Was Useful In Developing Techniques

The clinic had been aimed at developing the youths’ rugby techniques and helping them become well-versed in the mentality and team culture of the sport.

Said one of the clinic attendees, Tetsuo Furukawa, 16, “Normally when I go to other clinics, it’s just about the basics and we don’t get to interact. Today we learnt something new and Serevi was very kind to play with me and give me guidance on my rugby skills and team culture.”

He added, “So I learnt a lot – body positioning and rucks from Gregan and Serevi told me that the legs are the weapon – he’s definitely the King Of Sevens for a reason.”

Gregan Is Excited For The Rugby Action

Meanwhile, Gregan is looking forward to the action on the rugby pitch, which takes place today and tomorrow at the Singapore National Stadium.

He said, “I really love the stadium. It has got that nice family feel to it. They really worked on engaging what its happening, not just on the Sevens pitch but also outside the Stadium where there is a lot of activations, which I think are very Singaporean. There are food stalls and great games.”

All-New Entertainment Offerings

The entertainment offerings include the all-new Singapore Sevens Splash Party, Sports Hub Community Play Day, Live music by Smash Mouth and Broadway’s Rock Of Ages band, as well as the chance to meet beloved characters from Dreamworks like Trolls and the Minions by Illumination.

And continued Gregan, “Singapore is very special as a host city. And I think that the off-pitch activities are very complementary to the whole series, especially after the big tournament in the traditional Hong Kong Sevens each year. Singapore was the first one where Kenya won by beating Fiji, a few years ago in the Final.”
