Review: FITLY, a lightweight and minimalist running pack

To many runners, figuring out how to carry along their small personal items, such as their wallet, mobile phone and house keys whilst still being able to run in comfort, is a common problem.

But with FITLY, you now no longer need to worry about this being an issue, according to the product’s manufacturers.

Labelled as a minimalist running pack, the FITLY is developed with biomechanics, thus making sure that it can hold your possessions without getting in the way of your running.

So this means that regardless of whether you are going on a short easy jog around town or an intense trail running session, FITLY allows you to carry your possessions without obstructing your running.

Thanks to Key Power Sports, who are the distributors of the FITLY running pack in Singapore, I had been recently given a FITLY pack to use and review.

My FITLY pack had been the Mojito Green coloured one. But there are two other colours also available to cater to runners’ different tastes and preferences and these are the Emerald Blue and Classy Black packs.

There are a few different sizes available to cater to runners of different body shapes and builds. So you may need to try on the pack in order to see what size suits you the best. For me, I picked the XS-S size.

And so far, I have taken FITLY out on a few mid-distance runs, each one lasting for more than an hour, and I must say that I am pretty impressed with the pack.

I placed a few items inside the FITLY pack and these were my wallet, house keys and my iPhone 7 Plus. These are the items that I always carry with me when I run. And all of my items fit inside the FITLY quite easily, and with a little bit of room to spare too.

With a zippered pocket sized complete with a mobile phone sleeve, two little zippered pockets, a private side pocket and two little pockets that can hold small water bottles, a FITLY pack should be adequate to carry the running essentials for most people. As well, the pack contains cable pockets too, for those who like to use wired headphones when they run.

The FITLY pack is easy enough to slip on, as you simply would do for a regular backpack. Then to prevent the pack from bouncing, you would strap on the FidLock™ magnetic strap, which helps to fasten the pack onto your body.

With a single click required of the magnetic strap to hold it in place, I found that it had been very easy to buckle up the pack. And I found that this feature is also very secure and it does not come off at all, when running.

To take the FidLock™ strap off, is also very easy. All you need to do is to give the magnets a tug.

On my body, I found that the pack fits me very snugly but at the same time, I thought that the fit is very comfortable.

This is thanks to the X-Shape feature, which uses the steadiness of your upper back and chest area. At the same time, the X-Shape allows the weight distribution of the pack fits and wraps around your body contours nicely.

Running whilst wearing with the pack is also a breeze. I was able to run freely and the pack did not hinder my movements in the slightest.

As well, I also felt that nothing is weighing me down when I am running with the FITLY pack, unlike the feeling when you’re wearing a running belt, hydration bag or a drawstring bag, which might get quite hot and bothersome after some time.

In fact, I can still remember that when I had used the FITLY for the first time on a 10km run, I had completely forgotten that I was wearing the pack, about a few hundred metres into the run. That was how comfortable it was.

This too, is due to the pack’s X-Shape feature, which means that the design of the pack is targeted to allow free running movements while preserving the body symmetry. So you have the feeling that you are wearing almost nothing – this had been indeed true in my case.

In fact,I thought it was a complete breeze to run with the FITLY, compared to the times when I sometimes run with running belts, which tend to bounce up and down with my things inside, often annoying and frustrating me during a run.

In fact there have been times when the bouncing of a running belt has frustrated me so much during a run, that I have taken it off and simply held the belt for the rest of the run. But now, I know that I will never need to worry about this again.

The noise-free zipper tabs probably also helped with the comfort levels of my running too. As a result of this feature, there were no annoying zip ticking sounds during my run and so I could focus purely on my run and was thus able to absorb the ambient sounds of the nature around me without any unnecessary disturbances.

As well, I found that my iPhone 7 Plus also did not bounce at all whilst it was inside the FITLY pack; in fact, even with the phone inside, I was even able to forget that I had been running with my phone.

Usually, when I wear armbands or waist pouches containing my heavy phone inside, the sensation is quite uncomfortable and I always feel as though something is weighing me down when I run. This is why I have stopped wearing such armbands or pouches to run with. But I found out that this was not the case with the FITLY pack, at all.

This feeling of comfort is probably thanks to the water-resistant phone slot that basically locks the phone in place. Moreover, the slot protects the phone from the rain and sweat. I didn’t test out the FITLY pack when it was raining, but I do perspire a lot when I run, and my phone did not get wet with my sweat.

Despite me sweating a lot and my clothes usually getting quite soaked whenever in Singapore’s humidity I run, I also noticed that the clothes on my back did not feel uncomfortably wet towards the end of each one of my runs even though the FITLY pack had been wrapped quite snugly around me during the course of my run.

Instead, I had still felt comfortable and dry enough in Singapore’s hot and humid weather, thanks to the moisture wicking S-Cafe® eco-friendly nylon fabric that the FITLY pack is made with.

As well, the FITLY pack also features reflective bands to keep runners visible at nights, and a whistle for emergencies.

So this means that I can rest assured when I run after dark with my FITLY pack, without too much worries for my safety.

In fact there had been one occasion when I ran with my FITLY pack at about 12.30am, and the security features in the pack had helped me to feel quite safe when I had been out there during that hour.

The bag also has slots for coins, credit cards, gels and identification.

In conclusion, I feel that if you are looking for a lightweight and comfortable pack that can hold your key essentials during your run, then I think you should definitely check out the FITLY pack.

For me, I know that I will certainly be continuing to use my FITLY pack during my training runs on a regular basis.

The FITLY pack is currently available in Singapore at all Key Power Sports stores and it is retailing for S$119.

Thank you, Key Power Sports, for the FITLY running pack. All opinions in this article are my honest comments.
