More than 20,000 Runners Registered for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon

Seven months before the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) is scheduled to flag off at the beginning of December, more than 20,000 runners have already signed up for Singapore’s premiere marathon running event.

More than 20,000 runners have signed up for SCSM 2017.

More than doubled of last year’s promotional phase

The number signed up is already more than double the registration numbers for the end of the same promotional phase last year, and close to half of the 46,000 runners who took part in the 2016 race.

The runners had taken advantage of the Super Early Bird rates, which ended on 7 May. Interested runners who are still sitting on the fence though, can register at Early Bird Rates till 30 June, with S$15 discounts off their registration fees.

Increased sign-ups are a positive response, says Ironman

Race organisers Ironman Asia believe that the increased numbers are a positive response following their lifting of the Super Early Bird and Early Bird cap this year and their application for the World Marathon Major status.

Runners had taken advantage of Super Early Bird rates.

Said Geoff Meyer, Managing Director, Ironman Asia, “The SCSM is the premier running event in Singapore and earlier this year, we set a target to become a World Marathon Major event. We said that we need the communities in Singapore to support us in this quest and we are thankful for the strong support in the first registration phase.”

He added “We are constantly looking to improve and beyond bringing back waved starts for both the Half and the Full Marathon categories, we will also look at other enhancements, with the aim of giving runners the best possible marathon experience.”

Flag Offs

At SCSM 2017, runners will be allotted a start pen based on their finishing time and runners will be flagged off in waves. The first wave for the Half and the Full Marathon starts at 4.30am.

Runner start pens will be allocated based on estimated finishing timings.
