What To expect at the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens

Expect world class rugby and much more. A sports and entertainment fiesta awaits spectators at the 2016 HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens – according to the organisers.

This has been revealed through the ‘Rock Ruck and Rumble’ themed marketing event for the Singapore leg of the rugby tournament.

Reasons for the theme is simple

Said Sam Chan, General Manager of Rugby Singapore, “The reason behind this theme is simple. In 7s rugby events. it is a tradition for fans to dress up in costume. And rock means that the spectators can sing, dance and party to great music & entertainment inside the stadium. ‘Ruck’ stands for the world class rugby from the world’s top 16 teams and let’s not forget the inaugural South East Asia 7s and the first-ever Schools 7s Final.”

He added, “’Rumble’ translates to great food and beer and exciting wholesome family fun throughout the event. It is truly an integrated experience and there is something for everyone.”

So this means that regardless of whether you are a local resident or a visitor to Singapore, you can look forward to an integrated experience both in and around the Singapore National Stadium on the weekend of 16 & 17 April 2015.

Spectators can rock and sing along to the in-stadium music all day long. And with crucial HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series points for the taking, this means that the world’s top 16 Sevens teams will bring fans two days of bone-crunching rucks and scintillating tries. Rugby fans can also rumble at the Activity Zone in and around the Stadium and the Fun Zone outside the Kallang Wave Mall.

At the Fun Zone, you can become a Rugby Super Hero through a series of rugby challenges, and everyone can look forward to Meet & Greet sessions with global rugby stars, fun games and sponsor giveaways. Former rugby players can impress their families and friends with the Skills Challenge Zone. Kids will also be engaged from 11am to 8pm with lots of events and activities at the Kids Zone.

Singaporeans are looking forward to the event

Singaporeans are definitely excited about the upcoming Singapore leg of the World Rugby 7s tournament. Said Debbie Wong, a working mother of two, “My husband and I are excited to catch the HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens. We attended the Sevens twice in London but this time it will be different as we plan to bring our older child to the event.”

She added, “The Kids Zone is an important feature because when our child gets restless, we have the chance to have her taken care of and fully entertained while we continue to catch the game. The SGD2.00 tickets for children make things affordable and next year we plan to bring both our kids to the Sevens.”

Rugby fever will extend to other parts of Singapore

However the rugby experience is not limited to the Sports Hub – it will also extend to other parts of the island.

Said Chan, “We have worked with stakeholders to ensure that all rugby fans can rock, ruck and rumble not only at the Singapore Sports Hub but also in other parts of Singapore. The HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens is not just for rugby fans, it’s for families and the corporate community. It really is for everyone living in Singapore as well as for the overseas fans and visitors.”

For example, Sevens ticket holders can enjoy discounts for beverages at the Atrium Lounge, Pan Pacific Hotel and Volvo is running a “Guess the number of rugby balls inside the Volvo XC60” at its roadshows across Singapore. The winner will get a weekend staycation at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

The local men’s national team will also meet fans for a meet & greet session at 7.30pm on Friday so you can make your Instagram followers jealous by posting up selfies of you with your favourite rugby players.
