Singapore’s international marathon has entered a brand new era. New organisers SG International Marathon Pte Ltd (SGIMPL) are taking over as the event organiser. BYD and adidas as the event’s title and presenting sponsor respectively. Standard Chartered will be the official bank.
All three sponsors will hold naming rights to specific races within the programme – BYD Marathon, adidas Half Marathon and Standard Chartered 10km. SGIMPL will focus on delivering a race with runner welfare and experience as the main priority, making this a national event runners look forward to every year.
As part of this evolution, the BYD International Marathon presented by adidas will feature a three-day programme with the kids categories on Friday morning, 5km and 10km races on Friday evening, half marathon on Saturday morning and finally, the full marathon on Sunday morning. As part of efforts to enhance the overall runner experience, there will also be a cap on the participant numbers, with only 52,000 race entries available across all categories. Registration for the race will begin in April.

Said event director Shalindran Sathiyanesan, “Our team is made up of avid runners who have consistently taken part in and observed running events from around the world, including our national marathon, over the years. Our love for running shapes our approach and frames our vision of what we would like to deliver for Singapore’s largest annual running event.”
He added, “The decision to place a cap on the number of runners reinforces our focus on creating an enjoyable runner experience. We aim to showcase Singapore’s unique running culture while delivering a globally recognised world-class event.”
Added Daryl Yeo, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Development) at SportSG, the event owners, “Today marks a milestone for Singapore’s largest running event. With new partnerships, Singapore’s national marathon is poised to meet the evolving demands of the running community.”

He continued, “together with our partners, we look forward to delivering a world class experience that reinforces Singapore’s standing as a leading destination for international sport.”
As the new title sponsor, BYD’s presence will be felt on the race course, with a comprehensive fleet spanning BYD and DENZA featured across the race weekend.
Said James Ng, Managing Director, BYD Singapore, “The National marathon is a prestigious event and we are proud to power its next era and to support an event that brings communities together through shared purpose and partnership.”

As the presenting sponsor, adidas will celebrate the race weekend with an expanded range of Singapore-exclusive merchandise that includes head-to-toe looks for men and women, as well as the adizero Boston 13 and Evo SL footwear in Singapore-exclusive colours.
Said adidas Singapore Country Manager Chen Rui Yuan, “adidas is proud to be the first-ever presenting sponsor of Singapore’s national marathon. As we deepen our involvement, we are excited to help shape Singapore’s evolution into a true running city that inspires runners of all levels to cross the finish line stronger.”
Standard Chartered continues to remain committed to the marathon. Said Patrick Lee, CEO, “We are proud to continue our longstanding association with the marathon. This adds to our family of sports partnerships globally and in Singapore, which includes Liverpool Football Club and Formula 1. As this new chapter of the marathon begins, we will work closely with our stakeholders to elevate the success of the event and to deliver better experiences for all participants.”
First staged competitively in 1982, Singapore’s national marathon has evolved over the decades. Today the event attracts participants from around the world and reinforces the city’s position as a global destination for major international sporting events.
