Protecting our oceans through the Great Ocean Dash 2025

Last week, Sentosa’s Palawan Green was a hive of activity with more than 5,000 participants and supporters coming together for the Great Ocean Dash.

The end of a nationwide campaign

gThis event marked the ending of a five-month long national movement to spread the word for ocean conservation and coastal protection.

A wide mixture of people including families with young kids, ocean advocates, first-time runners, senior citizens and community groups all came together to run for the one thing that connects us all – our ocean. The youngest participant was two years old and the oldest was 88.

SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star also made appearances at the event and the two iconic characters posed for photo opportunities with fans.

The event was also recognised for leading the Largest Coastal Clean-Up Campaign by the Singapore Book of Records with 10,937kg of marine waste collected over the five months of activations. In line with their commitment to conservation, Orange Room, the organisers of the Great Ocean Dash, presented a donation of $15,000 to the Garden City Fund.

Said Elvin Ting, Co-Founder of Orange Room, “This campaign was built on the belief that every person can play a role in protecting our oceans. Today’s turnout and the collective effort of our partners show what’s possible when communities come together with purpose.”

The generous donation supports the 100K Coral Initiative, which was set up to protect and restore the coral ecosystems of Singapore. This further demonstrates the Great Ocean Dash’s pledge of turning community action into a tangible impact on the environment.

With the campaign now coming to an end, partners and stakeholders will now continue their efforts in coastal stewardship and conservation and community education into 2026.
