What are superfoods?

Explained Feline Gondokusumo, 24, an entrepreneur and superfoods enthusiast, “Superfoods are nutrient powerhouses that comprise a high amount of antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals per serving.”

Antioxidants are natural or man-made chemicals that interact with and help to neutralise harmful free radicals, thus preventing or delaying cell damage and therefore cancer.

Polyphenols, on the other hand, are micronutrients that prevent the emergence of degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Vitamins and minerals too, are essential elements that is required by the body to perform hundreds of functional roles. For example, to regenerate skin, muscle and bone, as well as carrying oxygen around the body and sending nerve signals from the brain to the body and vice versa.

Therefore, incorporating superfoods into your diet can not only help to prolong your lifespan, but also to give you an improved quality of life. In fact, many people who consume superfoods on a regular basis are generally healthier individuals than those who do not.

The co-founder of a small online business for superfoods

Feline is one of the co-founders of SuperLife Co, an online business that was launched in November 2014 and aims to offer an avenue for enthusiasts to purchase premium 100-per-cent organic products such as chia seeds, quinoa and cacao powders.

Feline, together with her co-founders 29-year-old Valerie Chai and 39-year-old Irene Lim, had a strong belief in the power of superfoods and a philanthropic heart. So they wanted to bring superfoods to the forefront of the public’s understanding of their usefulness for both body and mind. Thus, SuperLife Co was born.

One-stop destination for superfoods

Today, SuperLife Co is a one-stop destination for product supply, information, recipes and shared dialogue for both consummate users and novices.

SuperLife Co currently sources for their products from Europe, United States, Australia and the Andes Mountain, with each batch of products going through a vibration cleaning mechanism and magnets to draw out impurities.

Started growing their own organic products

However, SuperLife Co has just started growing its own organic products, and have acquired an organic farm in Peru to do so. The partners eventually hope to get at least 60 to 70 per cent of their chia seeds and quinoa from their own crops.

At the same time, SuperLife Co hopes to provide the famers in Peru with a better life and training on ethical farming practices to produce the best crop yields possible.
