Cold Storage Kids Run takes place this Sunday

The Cold Storage Kids Run – Singapore’s first running event for kids – takes place this Sunday May 28, at Sentosa’s Palawan Green. Gracing the event as the Guest of Honour will be Grace Fu, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, who will also be taking part in the event with her young sons.

Cold Storage Kids Run takes place this Sunday.

The event had started in 2008 and is celebrating this 10th anniversary this year. The theme for this year is “Going Places, Healthy Paces” and the event aims to encourage children to lead an active lifestyle and eat healthy from a young age.

Race has attracted 48,000 child participants

Over the past decade, the race has attracted 48,000 child participants. For many families, the event also marked milestones in their kids’ formative years.

Some, like Thaswika Vanisiri from Chongzheng Primary, had been taking part in the Cold Storage Kids Run before she could walk on her own. This year the 7 year old will be participating in her eighth consecutive Cold Storage Kids Run.

Said her mother, Narayan, “In her first Cold Storage Kids Run, Thaswika was still a little baby and we had to push her in the Stroller Family Run category. This year she will be running by herself in the 800 metres Boogey Banana Sprint. This event brings back a lot of memories. Each year at the start line, we remember how much she has grown. More importantly, this event allows us family bonding time and the organisers outdo themselves every year by putting up a really fun and exciting race for the children.”

On the other hand, taking part in the event for the first time is national marathoner Jasmine Goh, who will be taking time off her training to support her children. She said “My daughters Faith and Cherish are taking part in the event for the first time and I will be taking time off my training schedule to support them. Family time is important and as it’s the start of the June School Vacation, this will be a wonderful weekend out at Sentosa.”

Notable past participants in previous editions of the Cold Storage Kids Run have included kids’ favourite characters such as Bob the Builder; Dora the Explorer, as well as the Minister of State, Ministry of Manpower, Teo Ser Luck; television artists Jamie Yeo, Joanna Peh and Ann Kok; national footballer Aleksander Duric; SEA Games Gold Medallist James Wong and many more.
