SCC Rugby 7s is Back in Singapore – and is Bigger Than Ever

Now into its 68th edition, the SCC Rugby 7s (SCC 7s) will be back in Singapore – from October 30 to November 1 – and will be bigger and better than ever. This is because of a mouth-watering line-up of world-class teams making up the largest-ever field seen in the tournament to date.

Joining defending champions, The Borneo Eagles in Singapore, will be the developmental squads of international rugby powerhouses South Africa, England, France and Italy. The South African Vipers will be returning too, after a three-year absence.

These teams are using the SCC Rugby 7s as training to gauge their preparedness for the International Sevens World Series in 2016 – and Singapore will be one of the official competition venues.

Date coincides with the Rugby World Cup

The SCC Rugby 7s tournament will coincide with the Finale of the fifteen-a-side Rugby World Cup – which will be played on October 31 in London.

And besides the SCC Rugby 7s match action on Saturday night, the Singapore Cricket Club, being one of the sponsors for the event, together with the title Sponsor, Societe Generale, will host a party at the Padang. The festivities will be open to all rugby fans, regardless of who they are supporting.

Pleased to be the title sponsors

Said Pascal Lambert, Societe Generale Group Country Head and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, South East Asia, “We are pleased to be the title sponsors for the second year in a row, partnering the Singapore Cricket Club. It is especially exciting this year with the Rugby World Cup 2015 being played in England and Wales where Societe Generale is the sole worldwide banking, financial and insurance partner of the tournament.”

He continued, “Last year’s tournament was a huge success and we are proud to be associated with it once again, and will continue to contribute to the success of this event in order to help rugby grow in Singapore.”

Hope to see everyone come October

Added Jonathan Leow, Chairman of the Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby 7s, “I am eager to ensure that this event continues its reputation as one of the best tournaments in Asia, and more importantly, as a great experience for all rugby fans. We hope to see everyone there, come October.”
