CSC Run by the Bay introduces age-group rankings and new 12.8km distance

If you have always been wanting to win a race but have never been fast enough to do so – you may now finally get a chance at this year’s edition of the CSC Run by the Bay, thanks to the introduction of Age-Group rankings at the event.

CSC Run by the Bay will be taking place on the evening of 20 October at the Gardens by the Bay East.

For the first time, CSC Run by the Bay will be a sunset evening race, with the race village opening at 4.15pm and the first category, the 21.1km half marathon race, beginning at 5.15pm.

And whilst Age-Group rankings are the accepted norm in triathlons, it is no coincidence that this popular system is being applied to the CSC Run by the Bay, with leading triathlon event organiser MetaSport coming on board as the event organiser of the CSC Run by the Bay this year.

Running races usually only reward the best overall athletes, but with the mostly 10-year age bands of the CSC Run by the Bay, the chance of podium glory is opened much wider.

With the event also being hosted by the Civil Service Club of Singapore – the home club of Singapore’s public service officers and the organising body of many sporting activities – the running field has been further broke down into public officer and general public categories too.

So the run promises to be the ultimate prize-fest – and this means you might just finally be able to achieve your dream of winning a race.

For the general public, the age bands for runners will be 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+ years old.

Besides the age group bands, the CSC Run by the bay is also introducing a new 12.8km distance. This will be in addition to the standard 21.1km half marathon distance, Ekiden relay category and the non competitive 6km run.

The 12.8km is a meaningful distance because it reflects the total distance of a spectacular waterfront promenade course that follows the edge of the Marina Reservoir as a celebration of the Marina Reservoir’s 10th anniversary and a reminder of the crucial role that the Marina reservoir plays in helping Singapore achieve self-sufficiency in its water supply.

Also, for the 12.8km distance, there will be an additional age band for 14-19 year old runners.

The running course also gives runners a birds-eye view of a string of Singaporean icons such as the Marina Barrage, Gardens By the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Clifford Pier, Merlion, Esplanade, Singapore Flyer and the Singapore National Stadium and many more.

For the elite runners too, there will be a prize fund of S$20,000 being distributed among the top five overall finishers in both the half marathon and 12.8km races. This prize pool will be split equally amongst both genders as well as between the general public and public officer categories.

The goodie bag also promises to be attractive, containing a choice of either a tee-shirt or running singlet, as well as a running backpack, drink bottle and a personalised number bib.

Live results and finisher medals will also be given out to finishers on race day, as well as a finisher tee shirt for those completing the half marathon distance.

And when athletes cross the finish line, the Finish Festival will offer a myriad of things to see and do, such as kids activities, warm-up aerobics and Zumba, a DJ spinning cool tunes and the awards ceremonies.

Furthermore, these will all be taking place at a spectacular Gardens by the Bay East site, overlooking the illuminated city skyline.
