CSC Run by the Bay Returns this October with Workshops and Training Clinics

Organised by the Civil Service Club (CSC), the CSC Run by the Bay is a key event in the Public Service STAR (Staff Team-up for Active sports and Recreation) Games calendar and its aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst public officers and the community at large.

CSC Run by the Bay is back.

Race takes place on 1 October

Taking place on 1 October at the Marina Barrage, the CSC Run by the Bay 2017 consists of the 21.1km competitive category, 21.1km team Ekiden relay race, as well as a 10km competitive run and the 5km fun run.

The 21.1km Ekiden Relay consists of a team of three runners of the same gender, each running approximately 7km before passing on the baton to the next runner.

The 2017 race takes place on 1 October.

Runners Entitlements

Registered runners for the 2017 edition of the CSC Run by the Bay are entitled to a Mizuno race singlet, drawstring bag, race bib, finisher medal, chilled cold towel, an online race cert and sponsored goodies. 21.1km finishers are also entitled to a Finisher’s Tee. For both 10km and 21.1km runners, they will receive a timing chip and will get their official timing after the race.

As a lead up to the CSC Run by the Bay, there will also be official workshops lead by SSTAR.Fitness and Pacer Training sessions that are open to the public and lead by the official pacers, from Punggol Runners.

Registration Rates

Early Bird registration fees for the members of the public start at $33 for the 5km Fun Run, $43 for the 10km Open and $53 for the 21.1km Open, and $100 per team for the 21.1km Ekiden Relay.

For CSC members and Public Service employees, the Early Bird fees start at $20 for the 5km Fun Run, $35 for the 10km Open and $45 for the 21.1km Open and $80 for the 21.1km Ekiden Relay.

Early Bird registration ends on the 31st of July. After that, normal rates apply.

Official Workshops

Led by Andrew Cheong from SSTAR.Fitness, the official Training Partner of the CSC Run by the Bay this year, these running workshops will be on a variety of topics, such as running injuries, training smart and pre-race preparations.

For these workshops, runners are advised to bring their running attire, together with a small towel and a water bottle. Participants will also be entitled to a goodie bag worth $40. Registration fees for the workshops, for CSC members and public service members are $15 and for members of the public and walk-in registrants, it is $20.

The dates and times of the workshops are as follows.

Session 1

  • Topic: No more injuries!
  • Date: 26 August 2017
  • Time: 2-4pm
  • Venue: CSC Clubhouse, 60 Tessensohn Road. Level 3 Auditorium.

This workshop will be on common running injuries and how to avoid them. It will also touch on good running form with drills and how to develop your core strength.

Session 2

  • Topic: Training smart.
  • Date: 9 September 2017
  • Time: 4-6pm
  • Venue: CSC Clubhouse, 60 Tessensohn Road. Level 3 Auditorium.

This workshop touches on the fact that it is quality training and not quantity of training that matters most. To fit in workouts into our busy day and juggle our other commitments, training smart can save time and improve performance faster.

Session 3

  • Topic: Are you ready to race?
  • Date: 23 September 2017
  • Time: 4-6pm
  • Venue: CSC Clubhouse, 60 Tessensohn Road. Level 3 Auditorium.

Taking place on the same day as the Race Pack Collection, this workshop touches on the do’s and don’t’s of racing from the nutrition to the mental strategy and the post-race recovery process.

Pacer Training Sessions

Run with the official pacers.

Whether you are a novice runner aiming to run your first race or an experienced runner looking for a personal best timing, the pacers are available to guide runners and share tips with them on long distance running.

The dates and times of the two public Pacer Training sessions are as follows.

Registration for the Pacer Training runs are free but slots are limited. Only participants of the CSC Run by the Bay 2017 are eligible to register for the Pacer Training runs.
