8” Premium Biscoff Birthday Cheesecake from Cake Delivery Singapore [Review]

An online company, Cake Delivery Singapore prides themselves on being the only delivery service that offers same-day, midnight and overnight delivery – so that you can surprise your loved ones, no matter the time or the occasion.

Known for their award-winning recipes, Cake Delivery Singapore also uses premium ingredients to provide their customers with the best-tasting cakes in Singapore, according to their website too.

Cake Delivery Singapore got in touch with me recently, in order to try one of their cakes.

I decided to go ahead with their offer, using this as an opportunity to get a birthday cake for myself.

Originally, the collaboration was supposed to be for their Build-Your-Own-Cake, where customers are supposed to get to choose 10 different flavours of cake from the website and these would all be combined to form a single cake, in the form of one piece per cake flavour.

However, according to Cake Delivery Singapore, due to the unexpected popularity of the Build-Your-Own-Cake, they had been unable to replenish their stocks of this flavour, in time for my birthday.

So they then offered me a single-flavoured cake instead. This was roughly two weeks after the company had originally been in touch.

I decided to go ahead with a single-flavoured cake. So I went through the website; it was a rather difficult choice to make because all the flavours had looked so yummy.

In the end, I went for the 8″ premium biscoff cheesecake ($65.90).

The checkout process was seamless and fuss-free. The website interface had been plain, simple and quite easy to use and navigate.

Adding a birthday topper as well as birthday candles to the order was also simple and this only required the click of a button.

I picked the lunchtime delivery slot of 11:45am-12:45pm. The cake was scheduled to be delivered a few days after the order was placed, as a belated birthday cake.

On the day of the cake arrival, I received a call at 12pm to notify me that the cake was on the way. The cake arrived at 12:30pm in a huge box that I felt would probably be more suited for a 12” cake than an 8” one.

The cake was still cold upon arrival and its appearance looked identical to the photos of the cake displayed on the website.

And I could already smell a whiff of the yummy caramel-cinnamon biscoff notes coming from the cheesecake, as soon as I had opened up the box.

Cutting up the cake was not so easy, as it was still pretty firm. The knife had to be pushed down hard, even though the cake had been sitting at room temperature for a couple of hours prior to cutting. This probably meant that the cake had been half-frozen, prior to the delivery.

A strong biscoff flavour arrested my taste buds immediately when I tried my first bit of the cake. However, after taking several mouthfuls of cheesecake, this biscoff flavour subsequently disappeared, and this appeared to be replaced by a mild cheesy note.

The texture of the cheese cream itself is soft, light and creamy. After finishing off a slice, approximately 1/12 of the cake, it did not leave me feeling stuffed.

There had been a generous amount of cookies used in the preparation process of the cake. There was plenty of crushed biscoff cookies on the top of the cake that was used for decoration, as well as an ample amount of biscoff pieces mashed up inside the cake. And as well, the base is also made of cookie crumbs, similar to that of most cheesecakes. However the base did not appear to be biscoff cookies.

Nonetheless, the cookie crumbs at the base of the cheesecake were still crunchy, which was great, in terms of adding some contrast in texture to the otherwise soft cheesecake. Whatever cookie had been used, seemed to have retained its crunchiness better than the biscoff cookies used on top.

As well, the addition of biscoff pieces mixed in with the cheese cream made the cake texture feel rather rough on the tongue.

I also have to point out that the taste of biscoff also tended to be on the sweet side, possibly because of the additional sweetness coming from the cookies.

So if you prefer something that isn’t so sweet, then it may be better if you go for another flavour instead.
