Trying Low-Carb Bakery Seriously Keto’s Sweet And Savoury Treats, At Their New Shop Launch

Since Seriously Keto’s opening as an online ketogenic bakery in February this year, the brand has earned for itself, the revered reputation of delivering delicious Keto-friendly desserts.

Created by founder Janti Joso Brasali, the array of healthy choice offerings of low-carb, gluten free and zero sugar desserts have been well-received by those looking to cut carbs, gluten and sugar out of their diet.

A New Shop Space To Call Their Own

And now, the Seriously Keto brand is moving beyond an online bakery and will now have a shop of their own at 32 Seah Street.

Explained Janti, 54, “I guess that the demand is there. People have been asking where they can get more information on us, get to see our products and where to pick them up. So I think that it is now time for me to branch out and step into having my own space.”

And in the new place, Seriously Keto opens a Keto retail store selling raw materials and other ready-to-eat keto products, in addition to their well-loved bakes.

More than just a retail shop, Seriously Keto also provides a safe community hangout for shopping and discussing of Keto-related issues.

New Bakes Launched

Furthermore, to celebrate the launch of their new space, Seriously Keto has also launched a suite of exciting, brand-new Keto-compliant items.

For her latest menu update, Janti continues to draw on her treasure troves of Ketogenic recipes to bring more options to health-conscious individuals looking to indulge without guilt.

Indeed, as Janti says, every single one of Seriously Keto’s bakes are:

  • Keto friendly – everything baked is rich in short-chain fatty acids, which are friendly fats that are good for the body and are commonly found in nuts, salmon, avocadoes and olive oils. They are not stored in the fat cells, but burned as fuel by the body.
  • Low-Carb – To help those on a ketogenic diet to minis their carb consumption
  • Zero Sugar – Seriously Keto uses only natural, plant-based sugars that still taste sweet without any side effects. Unlike refined sugar, these zero-calorie substitutes are not absorbed by the body.
  • Diet-Conscious – Compatible with diverse diets, Seriously Keto’s bakes are free of grains and cane sugar, favouring the simplest and most natural ingredients.
  • Kilo-Friendly – Helping you burn fat instead of glucose for energy, Seriously Keto’s low-carb, high-fat offerings won’t make a beeline for your waistline.

Besides the now familiar, well-loved Keto-friendly cupcakes, you can now look forward to savouries, ranging from garlic pretzels to ricotta spinach quiche and rosemary bread loafs.

Moreover, there are also some new sweet options such as pecan tigress, cinnamon tigresses and a new beverage, the Thai iced tea with jelly.

And as well, a new addition to their popular KetoSpreads is a condensed milk version. This item is on top of the popular Kaya and Peanut Butter spreads.

Explained Janti, “Previously we had been mainly selling cupcakes, but now, we have introduced more breads.

Trying Out The New Products

I was invited to the launch event of Seriously Keto’s new shop where I got to try their new items.

The Blackout Bun (S$24.20 for six) – containing just 3.23 grams of carbs per bun, is a brand new variant of the popular KetoBun. Containing naturally activated charcoal to give it its black appearance, the bun is peppered with fragrant black sesame seeds.

Compared to the original KetoBun, I could pick up a stronger, more earthy taste from the Blackout Bun.

As well, I had thought that the texture of the Blackout Bun also seemed slightly more dense, as compared to the KetoBun.

But compared to a carb-laden bun, the Blackout KetoBun seems to be softer, less chewy and fragrant.

That aside though, I still think that it is very hard to tell that this is a low-carb bun. So for those who are on Keto and are craving for some bread, then this is a great option.

Seriously Keto also provided their “Cream Dream” (S$10.80 per 80ml jar) condensed milk KetoSpread – which contains just 4.8 grams of carbs per jar – to eat together with this bun, in addition to their Kaya and Peanut Butter KetoSpreads.

I admit that I have never really been a fan of condensed milk because I generally find it too cloyingly sweet. Trying the Cream Dream spread though, I thought that this had seemed to be less sweet than a normal condensed milk spread.

As well, I thought that the richness seemed to have been toned down a little and it did not taste as jelak as normal condensed milk.

Nonetheless, it still reminded me, quite strongly, of actual condensed milk, so it would probably be a great substitute for lovers of condensed milk who have recently switched over to a Keto diet.

But for me, I still prefer tucking into Seriously Keto’s Kaya Kryptonite spread, anytime, over this one.

The “Utter Nutter” peanut butter spread is nice too, with a very strong nutty taste to it. However, while it is really good when combined with KetoBread, this can get jelak if you eat a few spoonfuls of it straight out of the jar, which I tend to have the habit of doing with peanut butter.

Another of Seriously Keto’s new products is the Rosemary KetoLoaf, which has been creatively named Rose, Marry Me! ($10.90 per loaf).

Meaning “Dew of the sea” in Latin, the Rosemary herb is one of the most naturally aromatic and flavourful of herbs, and this KetoLoaf combines Rosemary with Lemon-Pine flavour.

I thought that the KetoLoaf tasted quite yummy, with the Rosemary flavour in the bread coming out quite strongly, combining nicely with the Lemon-Pine flavour to give the bread loaf a slightly tanginess.

Unfortunately the texture of the loaf seemed to be quite brittle, and appears to has the tendency to break up more easily, as compared to the KetoBuns. And this makes it rather hard to cut up into slices.

To round off the savouries, Seriously Keto also provided a bite-sized garlic and cheese pretzel, which they have creatively named (Garlic) Love-Me-Knots (S$5.90 per piece). I really enjoyed eating these, which contain just 4.6 grams of carbs per serving.

The cheese flavour in these pretzels comes out quite strongly and the subtle hint of garlic combines very nicely with the cheesy hit.

To me, this made the pretzels very addictive and I could not stop eating it, as a result.

The texture of these pretzels are a more dense version of the ketoBuns, and they are quite similar to the mouth feel of actual carb-laden pretzels, though perhaps slightly less chewy.

On the sweet side, we had the opportunity to taste Seriously Keto’s Red Velvet, Pandan and Chocolate cupcakes, along with the pecan KetoRing.

Creatively named Yes, Pe-Can! (S$5.20 per piece), the pecan KetoRing is a deconstructed cupcake featuring Seriously Keto’s cupcake dough topped with a nutty, pecan-centred cream delight. Containing just 3.98 grams of carbs per serving, this is targeted at the cupcake lovers who don’t like the cream on top.

And I thought that this KetoRing had tasted really good and in fact, I could not stop munching on this. The dough contains some chocolate chips, which seemed to combine together very well with the chocolate-pecan flavoured cream centre.

It is addictively delicious and I would say that it definitely did not taste like a low-carb dessert to me.

To round things off, we also tried the KetoKwencher: Thai-tea Fantasy (S$6.50 per serving) which is Thai iced bubble tea, specially brewed from organic tea leaves and paired with chewy handcrafted jelly.

It is very hard to believe that this contains just 3.14 grams of carbs per serving – because trying this out for the first time, I really felt as though I was drinking Thai iced bubble tea, from an actual bubble tea shop, complete with gooey pearls.

On the first mouthful, the bubble tea had seemed quite sweet, but then, after taking another couple of mouthfuls, it seemed as though my taste buds got used to the sweetness so I found myself rather enjoying my cup of drink.

The tea flavour is also strong at first, but this somehow seems to diminish as you drink more of the beverage, though.

Now I know exactly where I can get my bubble tea fix without the guilt.

Products Contain High Quality Keto-Friendly Ingredients

All of these products contain specially sourced high-quality Keto-compliant ingredients such as Swerve – a sugar replacement made from natural ingredients erythritol and oligosaccharides, as well as healthy almond flour, French butter, psyllium husk and Philadelphia cream cheese. As well, they are especially diabetic-friendly too.

Will Not Be Introducing Meals

But despite now having her own shop space, however, Janti still not be considering branching out into serving Keto-friendly meals.

She said, “I only want to support in the bakery department. I think I am not ready for food. I know I can sell sandwiches and we will be introducing a pretzel dog soon, but bringing those in, will be more of on-the-go items rather than being a lunch cafe where people can sit down and chat.”

Check Out Their New Space

Nonetheless, she urges everyone to come down and check out her new space at Seah Street.

Said Janti, “Come on down, have your cake and a coffee on us, and enjoy a chitchat with me too.”
