Review: Celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with piping-hot, free range organic turkeys

Voted as Singapore’s number one Thanksgiving and Christmas food specialty store with door-to-door delivery, Turkey Delivery Singapore prides themselves on providing piping hot, free-range turkeys.

Their birds are raised on 100 per cent organic feed and roasted to perfection with a special blend of seasonings.

Opted for the turkey and ham

Turkey Delivery Singapore offered me a choice of festive dishes from their website. We eventually went with the 4.5kg Perfect Roast Turkey ($159.90) and the 1.2kg Premium Iberico ham ($48.90).

There is a choice of whether to have the Turkey arrive either hot or chilled. I went for the hot option because my family and I do not have a big enough oven to reheat a whole turkey ourselves.

Ordering and delivery

It was very easy to navigate through their website, make my selections and make payment.

However there was one small issue. A PayPal option is offered on their website but this did not appear to work when I tried to use it and I found myself using my credit card instead.

I opted for a Saturday afternoon delivery, at a 2pm-4pm time slot. The delivery arrived punctually at about 2.20pm.

I had left an instruction for the delivery person to telephone me before sending the foods, and he complied with this too, which was good.

The turkey was indeed piping hot when it came, and was packed in a thermal bag.

For the ham, this arrived chilled for maximum freshness and was packed into a styrofoam container to keep the cold in.

The turkey stuffing and cranberry sauce were also packed together with the ham.

Flavour and taste

Turkey

In terms of the flavour profile of the turkey, it was flavourful with mild herbal notes, but a tad salty.

The breast meat was slightly dry and a little coarse for my liking, but the rest of the turkey meat was surprisingly juicy and moist and very enjoyable, especially the back and the tail parts.

So I have to say that Turkey Delivery Singapore does indeed debunk the myth that turkey meat is dry, hard and bland.

I heated up the stuffing and ate it with the turkey. The stuffing was mild with typical herbal notes. I have tasted stronger stuffings before. This is supposed to be chestnut stuffing but I could not detect any chestnut.

But I thought this milder stuffing blended together well with the richer flavours of the turkey as it did not overpower the meat.

The cranberry sauce, however, was on the sweet side for my liking and I actually thought the turkey tasted better without it.

Ham

Turkey Delivery Singapore’s premium Iberico Ham is described as being made from a special cross-bred pigs and cured for 24 months.

According to them, the exquisite taste of the premium Iberico Ham supposedly makes it the best delicacy in the world.

The ham was lean and firm and full of flavour. It is pressed ham, which is unlike leg ham, the latter normally being more juicy.
