I have been using this mask for a while now and compared to the stifling cloth masks that are issued by the government, wearing the NovelPac mask has been a different experience.

There are two types of NovelPac mask, one with pleats and another one without pleats. For the sizing, there is one standard adults’ size and one standard kids’ size available and I have been trying both out.

I have found that it is definitely easier to breathe with the NovelPac. 

We are all required to wear masks nowadays, so why not choose something that does not stifle your breathing rhythms?

However despite the ease of breathing, I have found that the NovelPac mask has the tendency to give me a ticklish feeling on my face, possibly due to the stitching and seams.

While NovelPac does make comfort tapes that we can stick on the mask to help with such, I have tried this, and I personally find that the comfort tapes doesn’t really work for me.

Perhaps it is because the skin on my face is a bit sensitive and tends to pick up the feeling of foreign objects easily.

This tickling feeling is more pronounced after wearing the NovelPac mask for a few hours at one go.

Personally, the fit of the mask on my face also doesn’t really help with the ticklishness. I admit I have a pretty small face, so the adult sized masks, which I think have been moulded to a standard sized male face, appear to be a tad on the big side for me.

So this often results in the mask either going up to my eyes or having excess mask material sitting uncomfortably below my chin. This didn’t really bode for comfortable wearing at the beginning.

The adjustable straps did help to a small degree, but there isn’t really much that they can do.

However, the kids’ mask have been a much better fit and has felt much more refreshing to wear, due to the improved sizing.

So I recommend that petite sized females like me, should opt for the kids’ mask instead.

I have done brisk walking sessions as well as short runs i.e. sprinting for buses with the NovelPac on my face, and I find that my breathing is not stifled. 

However I think I probably would still not really try the mask for my long workout sessions.

Unlike other masks, the NovelPac also dissipates moisture quickly and I have found this to be very true. 

In hot and sweaty Singapore, I find that many cloth masks tend to get wet and soaked when we begin to sweat, but this isn’t the case at all for the NovelPac mask. Instead, it continues to remain cool and dry, even after using the mask for a full day.

As well, I have also quickly realised that the NovelPac mask also does not fog up my spectacles, and that is definitely a good thing.

I am also able to hold a conversation quite easily with the NovelPac on. 

Many masks tend to make our voices muffled, making it hard to chat with a mask on our face. However this is not the case for the NovelPac, and it appears that the person to whom I am talking, can hear me more easily.

Each NovelPac mask lasts for 50 washes and to prolong the usage of the mask, you are recommended to use the mask sanitiser spray cleaning kit before and after every usage, to keep the mask clean. 

This is so that you do not need to wash the mask so often, unless it is really dirty. A 30ml bottle of mask sanitiser spray kit is included with each mask and a 250ml refill pack is available for purchase separately.

Spraying the mask ensures your protection against the accumulation of microbes and dirt on the surface.

That said, I have washed the NovelPac mask a couple of times because it was starting to smell quite strongly of my sweat after a workout session and it can get quite gross as a result.

But after washing, I found that the mask seemed to pick up the smell of the scented soap that was used, and the smell was pretty intense when I had used the same mask again the following day. 

So it is recommended to hand-wash the mask with mild, unscented detergent.

Overall if you do light workout i.e. leisure cycling or brisk walking regularly or if you go to the gym, and require a mask that does not stifle your breathing rhythms, then the NovelPac mask would be a good investment.
