Rugby Pros, Games and Activities Delight Shoppers at Velocity @ Novena

Last weekend, 20 youths and kids from Sport Singapore’s SportCares programme were treated to a game of rugby with the pros – national players Guillaume Galy and Jonny Barber. The participants, who were as young as three years old, had the chance to take part in the first ever three-on-three Tag Rugby fun competition in a shopping mall.

These rugby fans got a preview of what to expect during the 2017 HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens on 15 – 16 April at the National Stadium.

Galy said, “The event introduces rugby to potential players through simple yet fun games and challenges. Roadshows like these also build up anticipation and excitement towards the main event, which is the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens. As seen from the large number of families attending today’s roadshow and having great fun, the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens is really a great event for the whole family.”

At the same time, participants got tips from the national players and had two chances to kick a rugby ball into a wheelie-bin to win HSBC Singapore Sevens premiums.

Rugby games and booths

Rugby fans at the showcase also had the chance to learn various rugby skills at booths like ‘Pass like a Pro’ (making a perfect pass through a ball shaped hole) and ‘Kick Like a Pro’ (kick a ball over a crossbar to win a prize), as well as ‘Catch like a pro’ (to catch as many rugby balls as possible within 20 seconds).

By attending the roadshow, visitors also had the chance to win a trip to Fiji, by guessing the number of DHL balls inside a Volvo XC60 Luxury SUV on display, take a photo with the car and submit their guess and photo to the @VolvoCarsSG Facebook page. The winner with the closest guess also had the chance to win a pair of round trip tickets to Fiji worth more than $2,000.

The kids had fun trying the challenges and it’s great the organiser have different ticketing deals and promotions. The whole family, including my husband, is looking forward to dressing up in costumes and attending the tournament during Easter Weekend.”

As well, roadshow visitors also got to enjoy 15 per cent off two day Category One $150 tickets to the Sevens. And in addition to the family package of four (two adults two kids), priced at $260, this year also has a one adult one child package ($140) and one adult two kids ($180) package.
