The official launch of the newly named Great Eastern Promenade, the iconic 888-metre sheltered running track around Singapore’s National Stadium took place this morning. And I’ve got to say, it really feels like the start of an exciting new chapter for this already well-loved space.

The promenade has been refreshed in Great Eastern’s signature red and blue, and it’s not just a facelift—it’s becoming a lively hub for all kinds of community activities. The idea is simple but meaningful: create a space where people can stay active, connect with others, and just enjoy being part of something bigger.
The launch event, called the Great Family Play Day, gave us a glimpse of what’s to come. There were activities for all ages—family pickleball, beginner cycling sessions, and even a fun financial literacy game called the Great FinChamp Challenge for kids. It felt inclusive, with something for everyone to try.
One of the highlights was the introduction of the Great Eastern Run Club. About 75 runners kicked things off, and the club is open to all levels. This is designed to be a supportive and structured way for people to train, track progress, and stay motivated together. Whether you’re just starting out or already a regular runner, it seems like a great way to stay consistent and meet like-minded people.
I was amongst the runners. It was such a fun experience – everyone was buzzing with energy, high spirits, and adrenaline. You could really feel the sense of community, with families, runners, and fitness enthusiasts all coming together. It made the whole event incredibly enjoyable and memorable.

There was also a meaningful touch to mark Great Eastern’s 118th anniversary – families collectively completed 118 laps around the track. Each group contributed at least one lap, which was a great symbol of unity and commitment to health across generations.
Looking ahead, there’s more in store beyond just fitness. A new installation space near Gate 14 will soon house the Great FinChamp Challenge, aimed at helping young people learn important financial skills like saving, budgeting, and smart spending. This is expected to open in the second half of 2026, and will also include opportunities for the public to give back through donations to charity partners, with fun perks in return.

All in all, the Great Eastern Promenade feels like more than just a running track now. It’s shaping up to be a vibrant, welcoming space for people to stay active, learn new things, and build connections. And having experienced the launch firsthand, I can say – it’s off to a fantastic start.
