The world’s best triathletes have descended on Singapore this weekend for the T100 triathlon. Headlining a stacked field is Hayden Wilde, who stormed to victory last year in Singapore and crushed the field to win the T100 world championships in Qatar.
Hayden is relishing racing in Singapore again and is looking forward to the competition.
He said, “It’s super nice to be back in Singapore. I had great preparations and I’m ready to go. I was in Australia this time rather than coming from Europe, so the flight time was a lot less and the time zone was better so I feel great coming into this race.”

“I hope to bring my performances from last year into this year and am super excited to race and get the job done,” continued Wilde.
He is looking forward to racing Matt Hauser who is making his debut in the 100km distance. Wilde and Hauser are familiar foes and the pair have battled each other for glory many times over the sprint and Olympic triathlon distances. Having established himself as the short-course triathlon king, Hauser too is looking forward to testing himself for the first time over 100km.
Said Hauser, “I think the opportunity came up and it was good timing, I was just itching to race and really wanted to get out there and compete. The alternate was to go to Uzbekistan and endure a 40-hour travel regime to avoid the UAE and conflict zone. An eight-hour flight to Singapore was a lot more attractive.”
“While I have pressure on me in the short-course world, to start this race where there’s no pressure on me and no fear of failing in the T100 was also an attractive prospect to start off the season and ease my way back into racing.”

Hauser will be happy with a top five position in Singapore. He said, “Obviously I want to go for the win and a podium at that. But I know I’m up against some of the best middle-distance racers in the world and I’m the new kid on the block as I said, so I’m well aware I will be out of my realm or comfort zone. As long as I have a solid race and don’t blow up, to finish top five will be fantastic.”

Ahead of the men’s professional T100 race this Saturday at Marina Bay, I interviewed both Wilde and Hauser. Other than their expectations in Singapore, we chat about their upcoming goals in triathlon and much more.
The full interviews are posted on my YouTube channel. Check them out at:
