ASICS METARACER™ Speed Dial Media Session

Since getting them about a couple of months ago, I have been using the ASICS METARACER™ shoes for a while now, mostly on my interval sessions with my running club Coached.

I have earlier shared my review of the METARACER™ here.

And recently, to “further elevate and heighten my experience” with the shoe, ASICS invited me to a “Review and Trial” evening jointly organised and led by ASICS and Elevate Performance Coaching.

This session took place last Friday evening at the 100PLUS Promenade at the Singapore Sports hub.

In line with Singapore’s Covid-19 and social distancing requirements, there had been two separate sessions, held at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. I had been part of the later session.

The session had been in the form of a dedicated training programme aimed at helping me to experience the key benefits of the shoe more tangibly.

We kicked off the session with a short introduction about the innovation and specifics of the ASICS METARACER™ shoes, before we were taken through a series of drills.

These drills had been a mixture of both running drills as well as drills utilising a step ladder.

The target of these were to help us to get the feel of the METARACER™ shoes and how they performed from different angles.

After that, we ran two loops of the 100PlUS Promenade track. Each loop is 888m and for each loop, we began at a steady pace, and gradually increased the pace so that by the end of the loop, we were pumping our arms and sprinting.

We had 90 seconds of rest in between each loop. As the METARACER™ is a shoe that performs best at fast speeds, the aim of this had been to get a feel for the shoes when running fast.

I have experienced this sensation of the shoes propelling me forward during my Coached interval sessions, and this feeling was no different here. As I have said before, the ASICS METARACER™ are a shoe that shines the best when I am running fast. It is as though the faster I run, the better the shoes feel, and the faster the shoes are propelling me to go.

I have to say that it is a shorter distance shoe that I will definitely enjoy using during my interval sessions, as well as during fast, quick running races such as the 5km and 10km.

My main gripe is that due to the low stack height, there may be a lack of cushioning present in the shoes to take me through a full marathon.

Once we were done with the two sets of intervals, we had a quick debriefing session cum opportunity to discuss our thoughts on the METARACER™ shoes and how we felt about them.

This session may have ended earlier than I had expected, but I thought it was an informative and interesting way to take us through the features of the shoes and what they are capable of.
