Income Eco Run returns in 2023 with new, unprecedented concept

The Income Eco Run 2023 will take place on Sunday 11 June, debuting a brand new, one-of-its/kind mass run format where participants show their support for a zero waste lifestyle by running their preferred distance.

A customised route with exit points

To facilitate this, the run has customised a route that offers seven exit points between three and 21.1km, to allow runners the flexibility of clocking their distance of choice.

So this means that runners can choose to run to and u-turn at either the 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km distance markers and complete their run of 3km, 5km and 10km back at the Income Eco Run village.

For those who want a longer run, they can either complete 21.1km back at the event village or choose to end their run at the designated exit points located at either 9km, 12km, 15km or 18km along the run route where they will have access to public transport.

Begin at Marina Barrage

The run will begin at the Marina Barrage and runners can look forward to running past iconic landmarks such as the Gardens by the Bay, Keppel Marina East desalination plant, ArtScience Museum and National Stadium, among others.

By building wheelchair friendly ramps at targeted run routes, Income Eco Run hopes to promote greater inclusivity when championing Zero Waste.

Zero Waste

Additionally, as part of its efforts to advocate a Zero Waste lifestyle, Income Insurance Limited will also donate one dollar for every kilometre flocked at the Income Eco Run to the Singapore Environmental Council.

Says Andrew Yeo, CEO, Income Insurance, “We have set a target to achieve net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050 and we are working towards a practical business-wide decarbonisation roadmap. This is aligned to the nation’s and therefore the onus is also on us to bring Singaporeans along this journey to secure our sustainable future.”

He added, “*Income has been championing the Zero Waste cause via the Income Eco Run since 2017 and we are looking forward to continuing such public advocacy for climate resilience again with a new and more accessible event format that encourages participation.”

Pushing the boundaries on waste management

In this regard, Income are pushing the boundaries on waste management at the run, taking actions that are unprecedented at a mass run in Singapore. For instance, runners will be encouraged to run in their own orange t-shirts or past Income Eco Run shirts – to promote reusing and recycling of existing clothes, while reducing the production of the Income Eco Run event shirt, which is made using recycled materials and available as an opt-in purchase.

The event running bib will also be reduced by 30% to minimise material wastage.

And participants will also be given a light, handy reusable hydration cup on event day – to reduce the disposal of single use paper cups. The hydration stations along the route will still provide cups in the event that runners lose or drop their reusable cups, though. All cups provided are naturally compostable.

As well, there will be no commemorative medals. Instead, participants will receive e-certificates in recognition of their participation, and they can check whether they have achieved their personal-best timings on the event website.
