Features award winning Boa®  system

Built for performance, the revolutionary, award-winning Boa® System consists of three integral parts: a micro adjustable dial, super strong lightweight laces and low friction lace guides. Each unique configuration is engineered to optimise fit and provide precision, adaptability and control.

The Boa® System is featured in products across golf, athletics, outdoors, snow sports, cycling, utility and medical categories. And it is now making waves in the distance running industry, through shoes such as New Balance’s FuelCore Sonic ones.

Singapore Launch Event

New Balance recently held a Singapore launch event to mark the release of the FuelCore Sonic. The event took place at the New Balance Store at the Kallang Wave Mall last Thursday.

At the launch event, New Balance Assistant Product Manager (Asean), Wong Kee Wee, had explained to members of the media and invited guests present, more about the Boa® lacing system that the shoes feature.

He said, “These are the first New Balance shoes to feature the Boa® System; it is totally different to most of other running shoes that we have. Boa® is an internationally known shoe lacing system for high durability. With its ease of use and simplicity, you can skip the hassle of tying shoelaces.”

With the Boa® System, Wong also pointed out that the shoes are suited to triathletes who would need to slip into their shoes as fast as possible. He said, “The speed of transition is everything in triathlons.”

Wong continued, “We are not the first brand to use this Boa® shoe lace system in running shoes, but they can help to reduce tension and pressure in the upper of the shoes during running.”

Key Features of the FuelCore Sonic Running Shoes

At the launch event, Wong had also shared more about the other features that the shoes possessed, such as the responsive underfoot feel meant to lock down the foot and ensure performance in every run, as well as the breathable air nest upper to offer an on-the-fly customisable fit. As well the shoes have a full length REVlite midsole and a lightweight, solid rubber outsole. It is also quite a light shoe, weighing in at 241 grams for the Men’s Size 9.5.

Sharing about his experience using the FuelCore Sonic shoes as well, Wong added, “The shoes sit well on the feet and the fit is really there. It has stability and a snug arch, everything that a fast runner would want.”

Two other models were also launched

Besides the FuelCore Sonic, New Balance also launched two other shoe models, as part of the FuelCore series. These shoes are the Fuel Cell and FuelCore Rush.

Fuel Cell

Consisting of nitrogen fuelled performance foam, the Fuel Cell shoes are targeted at delivering a powerful launch with every step run. At the same time, it also allows for greater flexibility through the use of dynamic materials in the upper.

The Men’s 9.5 size of the Fuel Cell shoes weigh 300g, and according to Wong, this is impressive for a maximum cushioning shoe.

FuelCore Rush

The FuelCore Rush, on the other hand, are advertised by New Balance as delivering next-level speed into your run, together with light, breathable support when you need it. This, according to Wong, is also the updated version of the New Balance Vazee Rush shoes.

Playing a Little Game

Media and guests at the launch event were also tasked with playing a little game; we had to search the New Balance store for ‘coupons’ which we would then use to exchange for our pair of FuelCore Sonic shoes.

These ‘coupons’ were hidden everywhere, such as in pockets of clothing, on the walls and under chests of drawers. I admit that I am not the best at searching for stuff, but I eventually found one coupon with the help of the New Balance staff members.

I will be reviewing the FuelCore Sonic shoes in a subsequent blog post. So stay tuned.

Where to get the shoes

Both the FuelCore Sonic and Fuel Cell shoes are now available at all New Balance Stores across Singapore.

The recommended retail price of the FuelCore Sonic is S$149 and the Fuel Cell is S$279.
