Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2019 To Introduce Balloting For Public Registrations

Because of the overwhelming response to the loyalty registration period for the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon (SCKLM), a reduced number of slots will be available for public registrations – as compared to the year before.

Event Will Take Place on 28 and 29 September

Back for the 11th year, the SCKLM 2019 will be taking place on 28 and 29 September 2019 at Dataran Merdeka. The Marathon, owned and organised by Dirigo Events, will see participation of more than 38,000 runners ranging from elite athletes to first-timers.

A truly international event, SCKLM boasts participants from all over Malaysia and more than 70 countries. SCKLM 2019 also remains as Malaysia’s premier running event with top runners competing for a prize pool of MYR 50,000.

Ballot For Public Registrations

There are a total of just over 10,000 slots available across all categories and in order to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity of getting a race slot, public registrations for the SCKLM 2019 will be in the form of a ballot.

Said Rainer Biemans, Project Director, SCKLM, “We’ve taken some learnings from our tenth anniversary event last year and to prevent situations where potential participants could not register due to network congestion or poor internet connectivity, the balloting period will ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity of earning a race slot for SCKLM 2019.”

He added, “We apologise to the running community as we’ve had to institute this system in reaction to the unexpected volume of take-ups during the Loyalty Registration period, but moving forward, we’ll be using the ballot system for all registrations from 2020 onwards. There will be a guaranteed quota for 2019 registered runners and those who are unsuccessful in the loyalty registration ballot in 2020 will be automatically included into the ballot for public registrations, giving you two opportunities to secure a race slot.”

Ballot Opens 10.00am on 13 February

Potential SCKLM runners will be able to cast their ballots from 10.00am on 13 February to 11.59pm on 19 February 2019. Ballot selection will be completely random and computerised and will be activated by YB Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, Minister Of Youth And Sports, on 22 February 2019.

Successful applicants will then be notified by email and will have until 5 March to complete registration and make payment. Each person is allowed only one ballot entry.
