StanChart Singapore Marathon is back This December 2023

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) is back as a World Athletics Gold Label race for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hosting the International Elite Race and the Singapore National Championships

Taking place over a three day period from 1st to 3rd December, the event is hosting both the International Elite Race and the Singapore National Championships and is expected to attract 50,000 runners.

Said Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board, “The SCSM, with its world-class athletes and race organisation, continues to set Singapore a party as a leading destination for sports tourism in the region. SCSM is a key highlight in Singapore’s sporting calendar and I am confident it will over a fulfilling experience for both locals and visitors against the backdrop of our vibrant city.”

Festivities will kick off on Friday evening with the Kids Dash, followed by the 5km and 10km on Saturday morning, and finally the half and full marathon categories on Sunday morning.

The International Elite Race will be host to some of the top long distance runners in the world as well as the top Singaporeans competing for the title of National Champion.

Top Singapore marathoners to compete for prize pool

For the Singapore National Championships, this will see Singapore’s top male and female national athletes competing in the marathon and half marathon categories. Each category is limited to 15 males and 15 females.

To qualify and compete for the prize pool, athletes have to be a member of a Singapore running club affiliated with Singapore Athletics and must have achieved their category’s qualifying time at a World Athletics or National Federation sanctioned race between 1 Jan 2022 to 31 Oct 2023.

Male athletes are required to have a timing of 2hr 45min 00sec or less and females need a timing of 3hr 15min 00sec or less.

For the Masters category, the times are 3hr 00min 00sec (male) and 3hr 30min 00sec (females).

For the half marathon category, the requirements are 1hr 15min 00sec (male) and 1hr 30min 00sec (female) within the same qualifying window.

All qualifying times submitted will be subject to review and verification and not all qualifiers will be automatically accepted nor guaranteed entry.

An iconic race route

The route will include many iconic Singapore landmarks. Details on the route and road closures will be confirmed at a later date.

Said Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia, IRONMAN Group, “The positive feedback and success from last year was extremely encouraging and we are focused on making the 2023 race experience even better. This commitment to improve reflects our theme, Our Race to Go Beyond – which aims to encourage the community to surpass their own expectations and push their boundaries.”

He continued, “we are building up event festivities in Singapore and initiatives to better engage the local running community here. Apart from the return of the Elite Race, we also have other initiatives planned along the course to provide memorable experiences for runners, spectators and the community.”
