On 22 July, Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer Returns

The Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Angsana Green, East Coast Park, come Sunday 22 July at 7.00am. This event is the signature fund-raising event of the Singapore Cancer Society.

Established in 1964, the Singapore Cancer Society is a self-funded voluntary welfare organisation which provides patient care services to needy cancer patients, as well as providing free cancer screening services and promoting cancer awareness and prevention.

The 2018 event will feature two competitive categories, 10km and 15km and a 5km Fun Run. Chan Chun Sing, the Minister for Trade and Industry, will be the guest of honour at the event.

The Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer aims to raise awareness of cancer and the services that they provide, rallying the community to join in the fight against cancer.

As well they hope to raise S$1.2 million through the race, for its cancer programmes and services, including the Help The Children and Youth Programme, financial and welfare aid to needy cancer patients and their cancer treatment subsidies, free cancer screenings, research, public education initiatives, hospice care services for terminally ill cancer patients as well as rehabilitation support for recovering cancer patients and cancer survivors.

I have been running in the Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer for the past few years, because this is a cause that I support.

I lost my dearest grandfather to lung cancer a few years ago and till today, I still feel quite regretful about this. If I could not save my grandfather, I want to be able to do my part to help fight cancer, so that others do not need to suffer in the same way that my grandfather did.

As well, my mum was also diagnosed with brain cancer a few years ago and had an operation as well as going through follow-up treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. Now she is no longer on treatment for the time being, but is being monitored by her doctors.

And this year, I will be continuing to run in the Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer to support the cause.

But this time around though, I hope to be able to give back to the running community at the same time – as a pacer in order to help other runners to get their personal best timings at the Singtel-Singapore Cancer Society Race Against Cancer. As I have benefitted from the services of pacers several times myself, I would now like to provide the same service to other runners.

Registration for this event is now open, and will close on 9 July 2018.

The Early Bird registrations will be running from now till 10 June. Prices start at S$39 for the 5km Fun Run, S$47 for the 10km Competitive Run and S$51 for the 15km Competitive Run.

Here is a full table of the various event prices.
