Race Review: Singapore City in Nature Challenge (Virtual)

A year-long virtual running challenge organised by SpaceBib, the Singapore city in Nature Challenge supports Singapore’s City in Nature Vision, through the Garden City Fund, a charity established by the National Parks board.

Singapore’s biggest medal

The race offers arguably Singapore’s biggest race medal featuring 3D engravings of Singapore’s major park connectors with iconic landmarks, attractions and biodiversity details.

To earn the medal, runners are required to complete a total of 205.8KM anytime from now till 31 December 2022.

Distance can be completed via any form of physical activity such as running, cycling, walking, swimming, hiking etc. Any running apps, pedometers, fitness devices, smartwatches and indoor treadmills can be used.

Earning my medal

I was attracted by the proclamation of the biggest race medal, and clocked my 205.8KM, all via running, throughout the month of January.

There is no limit to how many or few sessions you can do the distance in.

For those who are feeling brave and adventurous, you can try to do it all at once.

Alternatively, you can take your time to do it, bit by bit, each day. It is entirely up to you.

For me, the distance was completed in multiple run sessions ranging from interval runs at the track, to tempo runs, slow runs as well as hill runs.

As I am currently training for a marathon in April,  chose to use the challenge as a good way to use this medal to motivate myself to kick-start my marathon training programme to get my runs in.

As another bonus, I also figured that it was best to finish it earlier so that I could get my hands on the medal quickly.

This was definitely a highly anticipated medal for me, after all.

Medal arrived punctually

SpaceBib sent the medal out within days after I had completed the distance, which was very prompt and punctual.

I have to say that the medal really is huge and heavy and I am impressed with it. They did live up to their promise of this being the biggest medal in Singapore.
