New World Record! A sub two hours London Marathon!

On the streets of London, the marathon was redefined.

At the London Marathon, Sabastian Sawe delivered what had long been considered impossible: a sub-two-hour marathon in a record-eligible race. His finishing time of 1:59:30 didn’t just secure victory. It established a new world record and a new frontier for the sport.

Close behind, Yomif Kejelcha made an extraordinary marathon debut, crossing in 1:59:41. In a race already destined for history, two athletes broke the most elusive barrier in distance running within minutes of each other.

The women’s race proved just as remarkable. Tigist Assefa surged to a women-only world record of 2:15:41, cementing her place among the greatest marathoners of all time. Together, the performances marked the fastest men’s and women’s marathon times ever recorded under their respective conditions.

Years in the Making

For Sawe, the moment was deeply personal. After years of relentless training and near-misses at the edge of possibility, breaking the world record represented both a dream fulfilled and a statement of what lies ahead.

Assefa echoed that sentiment, pointing to the unseen work behind the result: the daily discipline, the team support, and the belief required to push beyond established limits. These were not isolated breakthroughs, but the culmination of years of incremental progress.

Engineered for Speed

All three athletes competed in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 from adidas, the latest evolution in high-performance racing footwear. Designed in collaboration with elite runners, the shoe represents a convergence of lightweight construction, energy return, and precision engineering.

“This is a testament to years of dedication,” said Patrick Nava, pointing to the partnership between athletes and innovation teams that made such performances possible.

A New Standard

The sub-two-hour marathon was once the sport’s final frontier. In London, it became the new benchmark.

What unfolded was more than a collection of record-breaking runs. It was a shift in what athletes, and the sport itself, now believe is possible.
